Functional Testing

At The WellBeing Centre we offer a range of Functional Tests which help identify how your body is functioning at a molecular, tissue or organ level as well as pinpointing underlying causes of your health issues.

The tests we offer can identify:

  • imbalances in gut microbiome (gut bugs) and gut function
  • hormonal imbalances
  • adrenal dysfunction
  • nutritional deficiencies
  • environmental toxin exposure
  • biochemical and metabolic issues and genetic differences that are causing symptoms

The functional tests we offer are sent to private laboratories in Australia and the US. The results are sent directly to us, which we then discuss in detail at an in-person or online consultation. The results are invaluable when creating an individualised treatment plan to address your health needs.

The following are the primary functional tests offered at The WellBeing Centre:

Standard Blood Tests

These are administered by your local blood laboratory and are great for taking a first look at those experiencing concerns with their thyroid health, iron status, blood sugar levels, nutrient status, heart health, liver health and immune health.

Blood tests provide good results for some health markers but have limitations in some areas including adrenal function, hormonal status, gut function, gut dysbiosis, exposure to mould, heavy metals or environmental toxins and more.

The tests can often provide a good indication of where to look next for more specialised functional testing.

Complete Microbiome Mapping test

This is an at-home collection stool test.

At the WellBeing Centre we offer the Complete Microbiome Mapping test, which is an excellent test for people who have digestion-related health concerns, skin conditions and autoimmune conditions. The test uses cutting-edge DNA technology and screens for pathogenic bacteria, viruses, fungi, parasites, levels of beneficial (probiotic) gut bugs and some markers of gut function. We find that the results of the Complete Microbiome Test are extremely helpful for designing specific, effective wellbeing plans for clients.

The testing is done by an Australian functional testing laboratory. Labs in New Zealand can test for gut pathogens but only offer an extremely limited range and don’t use DNA technology.

Organic Acid Test

This is an at-home collection urine test.

The Organic Acids Test (OAT) is an excellent test that provides a comprehensive metabolic snapshot of your overall health, with 70 markers. It includes markers for intestinal yeast and bacterial overgrowth, mould exposure, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, oxalate and salicylate levels, heavy metal exposure, oxidative stress, and neurotransmitter levels.

The test picks up abnormalities in these areas, identifying the areas of your health that may require additional support. It is extremely helpful for helping to create specific, individualised protocols to address your health concerns.

This is an at-home collection urine test.

At the WellBeing Centre we recommend the DUTCH (Dried Urine Testing for Comprehensive Hormones) for people dealing with hormone-related health concerns such as PMS, heavy periods, estrogen dominance, low progesterone, PCOS, endometriosis, fertility, low testosterone, weight management difficulties, as well as low energy or adrenal fatigue. The test provides a comprehensive profile of sex and adrenal hormones as well as any issues with hormonal clearance.

The test helps to provide excellent information for creating specific and targeted health plans to establish hormonal and adrenal balance.
